TALISMAN ACHIEVES SUCCESSFUL MINE DISPOSAL TRIALS
Talisman, the innovative new unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) from BAE Systems, has achieved its latest capability breakthrough during a series of recent trials in Weymouth.
The first remote sea launch of the Archerfish mine disposal system from Talisman was successfully completed during the trials. The mine neutraliser then acquired Talisman with the subsequent simulation of target eradication. In another deployment, also from the Talisman UUV, Archerfish successfully identified and acquired BAE Systems' versatile exercise mine system (VEMS) demonstrating the extensive capability of the two combined products.
The successful trials were repeated to an audience of visiting US Navy personnel. As part of the same presentation, Talisman later performed an automated pre-programmed search pattern.
Developed by BAE Systems Underwater Systems business, Talisman is the world's first attack multi-role UUV with the proven ability to deploy multiple weapon and communication payloads. The integration of Archerfish also makes It the first fully autonomous mine countermeasure (MCM) system.
A fourth-generation UUV, Talisman has achieved many other firsts, including reducing developmental time and cost parameters by progressing from design stages to trials in under a year, a significant reduction in normal timescales, which are approximately 4-5 years.
