ATLAS announces new flank array sonar system ‘EFAS'
EFAS stands for Expanded Flank Array Sonar and is the (preliminary) name for a new generation of flank array sonar system for submarines from ATLAS ELEKTRONIK. Alfred Schulte, ATLAS Executive Director and head of the company's submarine systems division explains: "Our new expanded flank array sonar will beat any existing flank array system in terms of performance, reliability and mechanical resilience. Easy adaptation to modern submarine design will be a further advantage of this new generation flank array sonar.� According to a spokesperson the company will publish details on EFAS not before the second half of 2007.
