Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd2008-06-13 10:01:43
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd will be displaying their entire line of ASPRO protection products at the Eurosatory Land Combat Systems show in Paris.
The newly dubbed ASPRO Family, (Armored Shield Protection) includes the ASPRO-H, hybrid add-on armor. Released by Rafael in the early 1990's, the ASPRO-H is a combination of reactive and passive armor technologies and provides enhanced protection against anti-tank rockets, AP projectiles, high speed fragments of artillery, mortar and high explosive roadside mines. Last year, Rafael introduced a spin-off of the ASPRO-H - the ASPRO-HMT (MTAP), a multi-threat hybrid armor that also defeats EFPs. Rafael's ASPRO-H protects combat vehicles in conflicts around the world, including several types serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The ASPRO-P, is lightweight, modular and combat proven passive add-on armor. Rafael used the most advanced technologies, including ceramic, metallic, composite materials and shaped and laminated configurations to develop the ASPRO-P in order to protect combat vehicles against KE projectiles and high speed fragments of 155 mm artillery, mortar, roadside bombs and IEDs. One of these technologies would be especially suitable for the current US JLTV competition. The ASPRO-PAM (Anti-Mine) provides high level protection against anti-tank mines, blast charges and IEDs to the belly and sponson areas of combat vehicles. The ASPRO-P is in use by the IDF, USMC, and the Italian, Polish, New Zealand, Korean and Czech armed forces, among others.
"Rafael is proud to provide protection for both peacekeeping missions and Armed Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan" says Mr. Nehemia Schachar, Head of the Protection and Survivability Sector at Rafael. "Rafael has more armor protection products serving in the various Middle East conflicts, than any other company. Some of the vehicles that we protect include the US Bradley AFV, US AAV7, Dutch YPR, Dutch M113, and the Polish Patria-AMV."
ASPRO Family welcomed its newest member, ASPRO-MT (M-TAP) last year. It is the newest generation hybrid armor designed to defeat almost any threat to combat vehicles: RPGs, IEDs, EFPs, high speed fragments from artillery and AP projectiles. "We believe that the ASPRO-MT is a perfect candidate for the US MRAP program", stated Schachar.
Rafael has recently added its well-known Trophy active protection system to its ASPRO line. ASPRO-A, as it is called now, is the most advanced, combat-ready hard-kill active protection system available today. ASPRO-A comes in three varieties: The original ASPRO-A for heavy platforms, ASPRO-A-L (Trophy Light) for medium weight platforms and ASPRO-A-UL (Trophy Ultra Light) for lightweight platforms. They are designed to protect against RPGs, ATGMs, and tank HEAT rounds. ASPRO-A (Trophy) is currently in production for the Israel Defense Forces.
The ASPRO Family will be displayed in the outside area (E-160) at Eurosatory 2008.
