Transnet National Port Authority Of South Africa Orders A Grand Helicopter For Harbour Pilot Shuttle Operations

AgustaWestland is pleased to announce that the Transnet National Port Authority (TNPA) of South Africa has ordered a Grand light twin helicopter for its Harbour Pilot Shuttle (HPS) service. This Grand will perform marine pilot transfer operations, search and rescue missions, emergency medical evacuation and general support to international shipping.

This order adds to previous contracts placed by the TNPA for two A109 K2s and one AW109 Power which have now completed more than 10,000 flight hours and more than 20,000 hoisting operations. The selection of the Grand by TNPA confirms its continued satisfaction with AgustaWestland products for this critical and demanding mission.

The Grand is a new top-of-the-range light twin helicopter developed to meet a wide range of market requirements and provides levels of cabin space and payload that until now could only be met by larger, more expensive helicopters. The Grand's unique features make it perfectly suited for HPS duties offering today's harbour pilot authorities a modern, safe and efficient way to increase a port's productivity while decreasing port congestion and transport costs.

Outstanding performance, with a full Cat.A/Class 1 capability, enables the Grand to operate in the harshest weather and environmental conditions. The available internal space, the easy access to the cabin and the functional layout, allow rapid role changes from marine pilot transport to passenger and cargo transport to aerial ambulance configuration.

Orders for almost 240 helicopters have been placed by nearly 140 customers in over 30 countries worldwide, in order to perform tasks such as VIP/corporate transport, EMS, law enforcement and SAR.

South African, Chinese and American operators are already benefiting from the advantages of AgustaWestland helicopters for HPS operations.

TNPA is the custodian of South Africa's primary trading hubs, managing the most vital conduits of the country's imports and exports. Eight of the country's major seaports are controlled and managed by the TNPA.
