American Science and Engineering, Inc. Receives $4.7 Million Contract for Multiple ZBVs for use by Law Enforcement Officials
AS&E's Unique Mobile X-ray System to Assist Security Officials in Combating Drug Trafficking
American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E®) (NASDAQ: ASEI), a leading worldwide supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced today the receipt of a $4.7 million contract for multiple Z Backscatter Vansâ„¢ (ZBVs) equipped with Forwardscatter® technology. The ZBVs will be used by law enforcement officials to scan vehicles at border crossings and other checkpoints to detect illegal drugs and other contraband.
"The ZBV has emerged as the mobile X-Ray system of choice to support time sensitive security missions, said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. "With the ZBV's flexible, rapid response capability, security authorities can utilize the ZBV to counter shifting smuggling routes at sea ports, land borders, and other checkpoints. The ZBV's unparalleled mobility combined with its ability to find organic threats — such as drugs and explosives — make it a highly effective tool for law enforcement.
AS&E's Z Backscatter Vanâ„¢ (ZBV)
The Most Maneuverable, Versatile Mobile X-ray Detection System on the Market
A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is the Number One selling non-intrusive mobile inspection system on the market. ZBV is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's unique "drive-by capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
About Forwardscatter® Technology
AS&E offers Forwardscatter technology to complement its patented Z Backscatter technology. Forwardscatter presents a second scatter perspective that displays dense objects in cargo, such as the shielding found around nuclear WMD or other metallic threats. With the ZBV in stationary scan mode, Forwardscatter detectors are positioned opposite the X-ray source in the trailer. The Forwardscatter image is displayed simultaneously with the Z Backscatter image, providing the operator with more information on the contents of a scanned vehicle.
