Barco secures substantial order for avionics-grade mission displays

Avionics display provider Barco has won a sizable order from Highland Integrated Surveillance Systems Inc. (HISS), Toronto, Canada, for the supply of MDU-268 avionics-grade mission display units. The units will be installed aboard thirty helicopters for a customer in the Middle East.

Within the scope of this program, Barco's MDU-268 displays will be combined with an RN6 Digital Map Generator from EuroAvionics to create a sophisticated mission display solution. "Mark Pickering, VP Operation at HISS, explains: "The Barco MDU-268 mission display proved to be an ideal solution for this project, not only because of its superior image quality under all conditions, but also because of its easy integration and user-friendly operation. Thanks to the convenient 'On Screen Display' soft key labeling, operators can rapidly and easily control the RN6 Digital Map and the video inputs by means of the programmable function keys on the bezel."

"The MDU-268 mission display will present the helicopter crew with a dedicated imaging solution, compatible with FLIR, high-definition daylight video cameras, moving maps, computers and radar," says Robert Sanders, Senior Executive over Defense and Avionics Division, at Barco. "Moreover, the display sets itself apart with its very compact footprint and low power consumption, which makes it easier for system integrators to integrate the unit in virtually any cockpit or cabin environment."

The MDU-268 is a recent addition to Barco's cockpit display offering, derived from the company's field-proven CHDD-2000 family. Equipped with the latest, sunlight-readable AMLCD technology, the 6x8 inch display delivers excellent brightness and contrast, as well as a wide viewing angle of 80° in all directions. Because of this, the same unit can be used in portrait as well as landscape mode. The MDU-268 is DO-178B and DO-254 certified.
