AgustaWestland Congratulates Acher Aviation on Achieving
50,000-Hoist Operations Milestone
AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, congratulates Acher Aviation (Pty) Ltd of South Africa on achieving a 50,000-hoist operations milestone on a single helicopter. This result was achieved on January 2010 when an A109K2 light twin helicopter operated by Acher Aviation for harbour pilot shuttle (HPS) duties in South Africa completed 50,000 safe hoist operations with a Breeze Eastern HS-20200 600 lb electric rescue hoist system.
This A109K2 entered operational service with Acher Aviation in January 1999 and the aircraft has now totalled 10,000 flight hours, of which 25% spent in hover, and has delivered and recovered almost 106,000 individuals off ships accident and injury free by hoist or landing. The achievement confirms once more the operational effectiveness, reliability and safety ensured by the AgustaWestland light twin models for a number of applications, including HPS, SAR and EMS.
A long established heritage of helicopter ship service operations with activities started around the Cape of Good Hope in 1980, Acher Aviation supplies its services in the port of Durban and Richards Bay for the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) of South Africa. Acher Aviation, whose pilots have flown in excess of 120,000 hoist operations, offers 24/7 services to and from vessels at sea and in support of harbour operations and has performed a number of SAR missions in the Indian Ocean.
Transnet National Port Authority of South Africa operates one A109K2, one AW109 Power and just introduced is a Grand light twin helicopter for its Harbour Pilot Shuttle (HPS) service. This Grand will perform marine pilot transfer operations, search and rescue missions, emergency medical evacuation and general support to international shipping. The selection of the Grand by TNPA is a further confirmation of its continued satisfaction with AgustaWestland products delivering outstanding performance, mission capabilities and safety for this critical and demanding mission.
