BAE SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES MILESTONE WITH COMPLETION OF 100TH PROCESSOR AND RECEIVER FOR EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON'S CAPTOR RADAR
BAE Systems Avionics Group has announced that it has achieved a milestone with the completion of the build of the one hundredth Processor and Receiver LRIs (Line Replaceable Items) for the CAPTOR radar. The completion of the LRIs is a production landmark in BAE Systems involvement in the CAPTOR project, which dates back to the early 1990s.
The CAPTOR radar is the primary sensor of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The radar comprises six LRIs produced by the Euroradar Consortium, which is made up of BAE Systems, EADS, INDRA, and FIAR. BAE Systems Avionics Group leads the Consortium.
Frank Yuill, the Radar and Eurofighter Programme Group Director, with Avionic Group's Sensor Systems Division explained the significance of this milestone as "a marvelous effort by the team who have had to overcome the initial challenges of any programme that relies on many multi-national sub contractors and suppliers. They have achieved this result by responding through continuous process improvements in a thoroughly professional and dedicated way.
"The integrity of the equipment is further demonstrated by the fact that we have only one hardware build standard with our Purchaser and air forces. The whole Consortium deserves the highest praise for this achievement."
Customer authorisation has been given for the design work in preparation for the next production order and work is in progress. The first Production order, or ‘Tranche 1,' was awarded for 147 Systems plus spares with the first system delivered on schedule in 2001. Nearly three years later Processor and Receiver deliveries to the customer are on schedule, a significant achievement
