May sees new blood at ACPO Event

Several new companies will take part in this year's ACPO International Police Conference & Exhibition, which runs from 11th to 13th May at NEC Birmingham. Over 30 companies will make their debut at the leading police event, adding to the wide range of innovative policing products and services on show.

Protect-Systems (stand J1) showcases its Taser gun, currently being trialled by several British Police forces. The weapon has been tested by the Police Scientific Development Branch as part of the less-lethal technologies programme. It is claimed to be a Human Rights-compatible, less-lethal option for officers in dangerous circumstances where their only option would be the use of a conventional firearm.

Milsys UK Ltd (stand H18) will be exhibiting its deployable rapid assembly shelters (DRASH) for scenes of crime and incident rooms. The pop-up shelters are widely used by the CIA and the Ministry of Defence and were used by the FBI following the World Trade Centre attacks. The shelters come in a range of sizes to fit all types of investigation and can be erected in less than six minutes.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (stand G17), which assumes overall responsibility for the system for complaints against the police from April onwards, will be on hand to update visitors on the forthcoming changes.
Forensic Alliance (stand I26) showcases its extensive range of forensic science services. It will also present seminar sessions covering "leading-edge DNA techniques, forensic ecology and firearms examinations. LGC add to this year's forensic content presenting complimentary seminars on Thursday 13th May.

The ACPO event runs from 11th-13th May 2003 at Birmingham NEC. For a full exhibitor list, breakdown of the seminar content, and free visitor pre-registration visit www.acpo-expo.co.uk. Alternatively the visitor ticket hotline is +44 (0)870 429 4330.
