Goodrich Advanced Systems Support RAF Squadrons in Libya and Afghanistan

- Goodrich supplied intelligence systems used to analyze imagery

Goodrich Corporation reconnaissance systems, deployed with the UK RAF, have been used consistently over the past months to support operational missions in Libya and Afghanistan. The RAPTOR (Reconnaissance Airborne Pod for Tornado) employed by the RAF Tornado force is one of the world's most advanced reconnaissance systems. Developed and manufactured by Goodrich, the RAPTOR system comprises the DB-110 reconnaissance pod carried by the Tornado and the Goodrich Intel System that is used to process imagery data gathered by the pod. The DB-110 reconnaissance system is in service with multiple air forces around the world and is the most widely used long range imaging system currently in production.

The DB-110 reconnaissance pod provides electro-optic and infra-red, real-time, long-range, imagery to the Goodrich Intel System ground stations. The RAF Tactical Imagery Intelligence Wing (TIW) uses the Goodrich Intel System to produce intelligence from imagery captured by the RAPTOR system. This imagery and intelligence is used to brief commanders with timely and detailed information to enable critical operational decisions. RAPTOR has been widely used in support of land and air forces in current campaigns and was described as a key element in the mission to enforce the UN resolutions to protect the people of Libya.

Commenting on the employment of the RAPTOR system in an RAF news article Group Capt. Peter Squires stated that, "A major deficiency we have in the Libyan campaign is the lack of human intelligence on the ground. So we rely a lot more on imagery intelligence." Goodrich provided systems have been in use throughout the entire Libyan conflict. RAPTOR has been widely used in support of land and air forces in current campaigns and was described as a key element in the mission to enforce the UN resolutions to protect the people of Libya.
