SriLankan Airlines has signed a firm contract for a significant volume of Telair's new UltraLiteÃ’ Unit Load Devices (ULD's).
Telair International, a Teleflex Company, announced today that SriLankan Airlines has signed a firm contract for a significant volume of Telair's new UltraLiteÃ’ Unit Load Devices (ULD's) for on-board containment of passenger bags and small cargo. Delivery will begin in June of this year. Sri Lankan evaluated the UltraliteÃ’ during a very successful and thorough in-service evaluation and plans on using these ULD's on all wide body aircraft platforms.
The airline selected the UltraLiteÒ container - which features panels made from a highly engineered composite material - for the several advantages it provides over industry-standard aluminum ULD's, including weight savings, low repair frequency, durability, and overall life cycle cost, said H L Rikhye, SriLankan Airlines Head of Procurement and Logistics. "The benefits of our UltraLiteÒ product far exceed any aluminum ULD in existence today, said Axel Hauner, Telair President. "Most importantly, with the pressure of fuel prices and the ongoing desire to reduce weight, the UltraLiteÒ provides a signific ant advantage to cost conscious operators.
Hauner noted Emirates Airlines recent announcement of a volume order of UltraLiteÒ containers that will also go into service in June with Emirates' for their Airbus A340-500 long-range aircraft. "Telair is the leader in composite ULD technology and we are building considerable momentum in changing the historical purchasing mentality surrounding aluminum ULD's.
An UltraLiteÃ’ LD3 container weighs just 62 kg yet is rated for the same load as the aluminum unit it replaces - the highest strength-to-weight ratio in the industry.
If necessary, an UltraLiteÃ’ can be quickly repaired on the tarmac with Telair's exclusive Peel-and-Seal technology, saving time and cost. UltraLiteÃ’ containers are fully compliant with the NAS3610 C90c specification and are FAA approved.
Telair International has served the airline industry for more than 35 years, and is today aggressively transforming itself into the premier "one -stop shop for all cargo-handling solutions - widebody cargo loading, narrowbody cargo loading, cargo containment products, aircraft actuators, aftermarket services, and most recently an expanding new line of hardened aircraft unit load devices and onboard ballistic panels. Telair maintains 24/7 facilities on four continents.
