Rockwell Collins ‘HGSâ„¢ Flight' app for the iPad® now in Mandarin

Rockwell Collins' HGSâ„¢ Flight app for the iPad®, first unveiled in 2012 to let users experience the company's Head-up Guidance System (HGS) with synthetic vision, is now available with a Mandarin language option.

The HGS Flight app demonstrates the benefits HGS brings to flight operations by letting users simulate flights using real-life advanced features that enable more precise flying. The app also features synthetic vision to allow users to see a virtual view of terrain despite any weather condition.

Through a quick update via the Apple® iTunes® App Store or as a first-time download, users will have the option to view text in Mandarin, as well as utilize new flight sensitivity controls.

Rockwell Collins' HGS for business and air transport aircraft displays critical flight information in the pilot's forward, out-the-window view, eliminating the need for the pilot to repeatedly transition to the head-down instruments. As a result, pilots can keep their attention focused on the outside world, enhancing overall situational awareness and safety.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) recently released its "China HUD Application Roadmap" which recognizes the enhanced efficiency and safety benefits of head-up displays (HUDs) for aircraft and allows greater access to airports approved for lower landing minima using authorized HUDs such as HGS. The roadmap calls for 10 percent of in-service airline fleets to be equipped with HUD by 2015, and on all airline aircraft where a HUD is offered, either as a forward fit or retrofit solution, by 2025.

Rockwell Collins' HGS Flight app is on display in the company's exhibit (P417) at the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE) in Shanghai, China.
