Mauritanian Air Force Orders AW109 Power Helicopters
AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce an order by the Mauritanian Air Force for an undisclosed number of AW109 Power twin-engine helicopters that will be used for reconnaissance and border patrol missions. The contract signing ceremony was held at the Paris Airshow yesterday in the presence of Col Hereitani of the Mauritanian Air Force and Geoff Hoon, AgustaWestland's Managing Director of International Business.
Delivery of the helicopters will start in mid-2014 in a multi-role homeland security configuration. The contract also includes a comprehensive training and support package that will be delivered both in Italy and on-site to ensure a quick and effective entry into operational service for the aircraft.
The AW109 Power is valued by operators and pilots alike for its outstanding performance, reliability and ease of maintenance. These combined with role flexibility make the AW109 Power a highly cost effective and capable helicopter for a wide range of missions.
The AW109 Power is a single-pilot IFR certified helicopter with a maximum cruise speed of 154 knots (285 km/h). The aircraft's engines are controlled by a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system. A digital glass cockpit with six liquid crystal instrument displays provides the aircrew with flight, systems and mission data.
Almost 480 AW109s are in service in about 50 countries, with almost one third of these being operated by government customers. AgustaWestland is able to offer AW109 Power operators a wide range of conversion, recurrent and mission training courses on a range of training devices including its full flight simulator located at its Training Academy in Italy. A wide range of cabin
interiors, mission equipment and systems make the AW109 Power a true multi-role helicopter able to satisfy a wide range of missions including passenger transport, law enforcement, air ambulance, coast guard, border patrol and advanced training.
