Sichuan Airlines selects Rockwell Collins avionics package

China-based Sichuan Airlines has selected a comprehensive Rockwell Collins avionics package, including its new MultiScan ThreatTrackâ„¢ weather radar, for 25 new Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. With this most recent selection, Sichuan will operate Rockwell Collins systems for these aircraft in both the flight deck and cabin. Deliveries will begin in late 2014.

The avionics order is in addition to Sichuan Airlines' recent selection of Rockwell Collins' newest and most advanced in-flight entertainment (IFE) offering— PAVES™ On-demand for the first class section and PAVES™ Broadcast overhead IFE system for the economy cabin of 20 of its new aircraft.

"We're honored that Sichuan has opted to equip our systems throughout the entire aircraft," said Jim Walker, vice president and managing director, International and Service Solutions for Asia Pacific, Rockwell Collins. "Pilots will operate with the latest advancements for avoiding damaging weather threats and precisely navigating challenging approaches and passengers will enjoy reliable entertainment that is very intuitive to use."

MultiScan ThreatTrack goes beyond hail and lightning prediction within a thunderstorm cell and alerts pilots to these significant threats adjacent to or above the cell. In addition, the new radar is the first in the industry to feature two levels of turbulence detection—severe and ride-quality—which more accurately informs flight crews of the type of turbulence in their path.

Also included in the avionics selection is the GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR)—the first ever certified GPS Landing System receiver, automatic detection finder (ADF), distance measuring equipment (DME), VOR short-range radio navigation system and HF/VHF radios.
