CTA International achieves Anglo-French qualification for the 40mm Cased Telescoped Cannon and Ammunition.

CTA International, the Joint Venture company between BAE Systems and NEXTER created for the development, manufacture, marketing and sales of the 40mm Cased Telescoped Armament System (40 CTAS), has achieved qualification certification for the 40mm cased telescoped cannon and the armoured piercing and target practice rounds of ammunition from both the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the French Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA). CTA International will issued its Certificates of Design just prior to the main defence exhibition held at Eurosatory 2014, France.

The programme is continuing with completion of the certification testing for the other natures of ammunition expected to complete over the next two years, in time for the first delivery of French and UK's series production vehicles.

Qualification certification allows both the UK MoD's Category A land vehicle programmes (Scout and WCSP) and the French DGA's EBRC programme to move into manned firing demonstration phases. CTA International has already delivered the required weapons for the UK and French demonstration programmes and is currently delivering the ammunition.

The qualification certification is a major vote of confidence for the Anglo-French cooperation as both nations are now able to move towards the procurement of series production weapons and ammunition. The MoD is leading this and is working with CTA International to initiate the series production of 40mm Cased Telescoped weapons in readiness for the Scout and WCSP vehicle production phases. The DGA EBRC programme is expected to start development in 2015.

'The issue of the Ordnance Safety Certification after 3 years of extensive trials is a significant achievement in the development of the UK's future medium calibre cannon. This will make a big difference to our armoured vehicle fleet.' said Lieutenant General Chris Deverell Chief of Material (Land) UK MOD.
