UTC Aerospace Systems Selected by Cathay Pacific Airways to Provide Wheels and Carbon Brakes and MRO for their Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 Fleets
UTC Aerospace Systems has been selected by Cathay Pacific Airways to supply the wheels and carbon brakes for its fleet of 48 Airbus A350-900/A350-1000 aircraft on firm orders. The company will provide the equipment through its Landing Systems facility in Troy, Ohio. Cathay Pacific Airways will take delivery of their first A350-900 aircraft in 2016. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The A350-900 and A350-1000 carbon brakes use proprietary DURACARB® carbon heat sink material. The DURACARB® carbon provides exceptional brake performance and a 35 percent brake life advantage over competitive products, producing significant cost savings for operators.
"Cathay Pacific is the first airline worldwide to select an A350-1000 wheel and brake supplier. This key supplier selection demonstrates Cathay Pacific's confidence in our equipment and full service MRO support," said Jim Wharton, senior vice president, Landing Systems. "We are pleased to continue supporting Cathay Pacific's entire aircraft fleet through our wheel and brake MRO facility in Hong Kong."
Patrick Low, Cathay Pacific's Engineering Procurement manager, Landing Gear and Braking Systems, said: "We have good confidence in UTC Aerospace Systems' ability to provide market-competitive products and cost-effective maintenance solution for our new A350 fleet over the long term."
Cathay Pacific, founded in 1946, is the international home carrier of Hong Kong, with its head office and main hub located at Hong Kong International Airport. The airline's operations include scheduled passenger and cargo services to 182 destinations in 42 countries worldwide, including codeshares and joint ventures, with a fleet of wide-body aircraft.
