Innovations introduced across the company's packages of work
GKN Aerospace today joins industry partners in congratulating Airbus on the delivery of the first A350-900 to launch customer Qatar Airways.
GKN Aerospace's contribution to this highly efficient next generation widebody includes:
• Wing spars: design, development and manufacturing of the all-composite rear wing spars in a world class purpose built facility
• Wing fixed trailing edge: design, development and automated assembly of the wing fixed trailing edge.
• Inboard and outboard flap components: Manufacture of major composite components for the aircraft's inboard and outboard flaps
• Trent XWB: design, development and manufacture of the intermediate compressor case for Rolls-Royce using advanced fabrication technology and additive manufacturing (AM). Manufacture of thrust struts, inner core fairings and blisks.
• Windows: Supply of the passenger cabin windows (PCW) protected by the company's patented, industry-leading CrystalVue II coating technology.
GKN Aerospace has introduced innovative techniques and technologies across every aspect of its development and production work for the A350 XWB. These technologies are helping ensure the aircraft meets demanding requirements for manufacturing as well as exacting specifications covering aircraft weight, fuel consumption and emissions.
