Boeing Awards Contract to Telair To Design and Build Cargo Handling System for the 747-400 Large Cargo Freighter
Telair International announced today that it has received a contract from Boeing for the design and manufacture of cargo handling systems for use in Boeing's new 747-400 Large Cargo Freighter (LCF).
Installation of the system will take place at Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corporation (EGAT) in Taiwan in early 2006.
The LCF is being developed by Boeing to transport major assemblies of the all-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner from partners worldwide to its Everett, Washington facility for final assembly. The loading system from Telair will transport these heavy and voluminous shipments in the plane and secure them in place during the flight.
"Telair is the second German supplier that has been chosen to support the 787 Dreamliner program. This step is a further tribute to the technological potential of German aerospace companies and towards strengthening our engagement in Germany, says Horst Teltschik, President Boeing Germany.
"We are honored to be chosen by Boeing for a system so critical to the success of the new 787 Dreamliner, said Telair Inter-national President Axel Hauner. "We believe the selection of the Telair systems underscores the unparalleled performance of our cargo loading system technology.
"This contract also proves to our many 747 customers who have had their cargo or passenger planes equipped with Telair systems that they made the right decision. Meeting the challenges of the exceptional payload lengths and loads aboard the LCF will ultimately transfer into continuous improvements for all of our other systems.
The current customers who fly B747-400 aircraft equipped with Telair systems include renowned companies such as Cargolux, Air France, British Airways, KLM, Martinair, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, Korean Airlines, Dragon Air, Malaysian Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Nippon Cargo Airlines, Japan Airlines International, China Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Air New Zealand, Eva Air, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Polar Air and Northwest Airlines.
The 747-400 LCF cargo handling system features "intelligent power drive units networked through a CAN bus technology-based control system allowing them to communicate with one another. This enables a safe and non-labor intensive loading and unloading of the aircraft and simplifies system maintenance.
The development of the system will be carried out in close coordination between the responsible divisions at Boeing in Seattle and Telair in Miesbach. The complete system's functionality will then be tested and evaluated in one of Telair's B747s at its testing facilities in the Mojave Desert of California.
