ORTEC PRODUCTS SIGNS EXCLUSIVE LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH LAWRENCE LIVERMORE FOR RADIATION DETECTION TECHNOLOGY
Agreement Follows Commercialization of Next-Generation Radiation Detector
The ORTEC Products Group of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology (AMT) has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with the University of California's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for its RadScout radiation detection technology.
"We are pleased to extend our relationship with Lawrence Livermore from a non-exclusive to an exclusive agreement,â€? comments Jon Kidder, Vice President and General Manager of AMETEK AMT. "Since signing the non-exclusive agreement two years ago, we have successfully incorporated the RadScout technology into our ORTEC® Detective family of advanced nuclide identifiers."

"Our RadScout technology represents a breakthrough in radiation detector technology, while the ORTEC detectors provide first responders, HAZMAT teams, fire departments, government authorities and others with the ability to quickly and reliably screen objects for potentially dangerous nuclear material.�
"The RadScout technology represents a substantial advance in system performance, greatly improving the ability of authorities to resolve alarms without interfering with the normal flow of commerce at airports, border crossings, freight ports and transportation terminals,� notes Jon Kidder, Vice President and General Manager of AMETEK AMT.
The ORTEC Detective and Detective-EX offer superb sensitivity and selectivity by incorporating a high-purity germanium (HPGe), ultrahigh-resolution gamma ray detector that allows positive identification of gamma-emitting radioactive materials without expert intervention. The ORTEC Detective-EX adds neutron detection ability to the functionality of the Detective.
Most recently, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded AMETEK a contract for the development of an Advanced Spectroscopic Portal Monitoring System based on technology used in ORTEC Detective and Detective-EX hand-held radioisotope identifiers. The portal monitoring system will quickly screen pedestrians, vehicles and freight containers for potentially harmful shipments of radioactive materials that could be use in a nuclear device or "dirty bomb�. The first two prototypes are scheduled for delivery during the third quarter of 2005.
ORTEC has more than 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of highly sensitive radiation detectors used by government and industrial laboratories, nuclear facilities and medical research and in nuclear safeguards.
