Aircraft maintenance, engine and transparency services the focus for GKN Aerospace at the Singapore Air Show, 2016
On stand F87 at the Singapore Airshow next month GKN Aerospace will showcase its MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) activity supporting operators in the Asian region. The company's growing aero-engine and aircraft transparencies aftermarket operations will be joined at the Singapore show by GKN Aerospace's newly acquired aftermarket division, Fokker Services, which provides global support for many of the leading airframe prime manufacturers.
Transparency repair and replacement
On display at the Singapore show for the first time will be GKN Aerospace's recently qualified, 10% lighter, higher performance main pilot (No 1) windshield for the Airbus single aisle aircraft family (A318/A319/A320/A321). This new windshield is fully interchangeable with existing windshields and combines with the company's established No 2 and No 3 cockpit windows to form the lightest complete cockpit window set on the market for single aisle aircraft.
GKN Aerospace has also recently launched its comprehensive Transparencies Aftermarket Service (TAS) which offers a complete window repair, framing and exchange service to airlines and freight carriers and can achieve up to 20% savings on the operator's annual ATA 56* spend. Initially operating from the company's transparencies manufacturing facility in Garden Grove, CA, GKN Aerospace expects to open TAS facilities in Europe and in Asia by mid-2016.
The company is a technology leader and market-leading manufacturer of original-equipment and aftermarket aircraft canopies, cockpit windows, windshields, passenger cabin windows and wingtip lenses. GKN Aerospace is also a leading supplier of bullet resistant glazing, a display of which will also feature on the stand.
Fokker Services
The extensive Fokker Services (a business unit of Fokker Technologies) aftermarket activity provides global support for Airbus, ATR, Boeing, Bombardier Dash 8, CRJ and Fokker aircraft, offering component repair, engineering and modifications, and spares support. The operation also provides ATR and Fokker aircraft maintenance and re-delivery using the Fokker Services Asia (FSA) hangar facility in Singapore. The incorporation of this local operation into GKN Aerospace's broader MRO portfolio provides a valuable extension to the company's presence in the Asian market, helping deliver improved aircraft fleet affordability, reliability and availability for operators in the region.
Engine services
With the acquisition of Fokker Technologies by GKN Aerospace, the established P&W Canada PW100 engine services capability is strengthened by the strong regional presence of Fokker Services Asia (FSA). GKN Aerospace's engine services operation has been supporting airlines and operators for 45 years, including many Asia-based customers. As well as the PW100, it also supports the Honeywell TFE731 turbofan engine alongside its industrial gas turbine (IGT) programmes. The operation holds full OEM licenses, has national airworthiness approvals and offers tailored engine maintenance solutions, created in close partnership with each customer, that minimize downtime and maximize efficiency. GKN Aerospace has service teams on standby for on-site support and provides around-the-clock expert technical service - as well as readily available lease engines.
Fan blade repair
GKN Aerospace holds a wide range of approvals for repair of engine low pressure compressor (LPC) components in support of 180 airlines and jet engine overhaul shops internationally.
In a recent business expansion, the company has established a centre of excellence for fan blade repairs for the GE CF6 high-bypass turbofan engine - cornerstone of the wide-body engine aircraft business. The aftermarket and licensing agreements between GE Aviation and GKN Aerospace cover all fan blade repairs for the entire suite of CF6 engines, which equip thirteen aircraft types including the DC10, the MD11, Boeing 747 and 767 and Airbus A300, A310 and A330 aircraft.
