UTC Aerospace Systems to increase operational efficiency of airline crews with new industry-first mobile app
UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. is working to provide pilots the ability to adjust aircraft operations in real time with its latest industry-first - the new OpsInsightâ„¢ app. The advanced mobile app is designed to provide real-time aircraft data to a pilot's Apple iPad® or Windows-based tablet and increase the efficiency of airline crews by bringing pre-flight and in-flight information directly to a pilot's fingertips.
"OpsInsight will mobilize data, enhancing the pilot's routine and offering pilots an advantage they have never had before," said Justin Keppy, President, Sensors & Integrated Systems, UTC Aerospace Systems. "Pilots will be able to access intelligent analytics wherever they are, allowing them to adjust aircraft operations based on real-time data. By providing immediate access to live data, OpsInsight can lead to cost and time savings for airlines by increasing the opportunity for improved fuel consumption, on-time departures and arrivals, and the elimination of paper-based processes."
OpsInsight is part of a suite of applications that UTC Aerospace Systems developed for its Aircraft Interface Device (AID) and Tablet Interface Module (TIM®). The suite of applications provides flight crews and airline operators with an array of critical information in an easy-to-access, consumable platform that helps increase efficiency by streamlining operations.
"It's rewarding to see how our innovative mobile applications are providing real-time value to our customers," said Keppy. "By decreasing time from takeoff to landing, or enhancing communications between flight and ground crews, our advanced apps are contributing to more intelligent customer service and a better passenger experience."
OpsInsight, the latest application in the company's suite, will soon undergo in-flight trials with leading airlines. These trials will complete the functionality testing of the app as an end-to-end solution by connecting UTC Aerospace Systems' aircraft data management (ADM) system and OpsInsight with airline back-office information technology and management systems. All trials are expected to be completed by the end of September 2016.
