QinetiQ's Electromagnetic EMC Group launches mobile test facility

QinetiQ's EMC Group is enhancing its world leading mobile EMC test capability for providing on site EMC evaluation and testing for all vehicle platforms and fixed installations. Most significantly, its microwave instrumentation has been updated to provide an 18-40GHz capability for the evaluation of susceptibility and measurement of attenuation.

This large, air conditioned, mobile instrumentation unit can be positioned on customer sites to provide a self-contained working environment for measurement and all on-site processing, ensuring fast turn around times. The capability is backed by over 50 years of EMC expertise in the development of novel frequency and time domain measurement techniques. The service is available for both military and civilian work programmes.

"QinetiQ is already well known for its EMC environmental assessment and analysis expertise but this mobile test service continues to reinforce our capability and supports our customers' challenging test requirements," stated Gavin Barber, QinetiQ's mobile test facility manager.

Since 1986 QinetiQ, and it's predecessor organisations, has played a key role on the main committees and working groups responsible for external RF environmental definitions which together have a fundamental impact on aircraft testing and design. QinetiQ has also been involved in developing procedures to determine the coupling between the external environment and the internal RF stresses on equipment.

These procedures are known as the Low Level Coupling (LLC) Tests and have been developed and performed by QinetiQ for over 15 years. The LLC procedure is currently defined for the 10kHz-18GHz frequency band, employing a combination of Low level Swept Current (LLSC) and Low Level Swept Field (LLSF) techniques.
