LATEST GENERATION GRIPEN ARRIVES IN DUBAI
SWEDISH FIGHTER JET TO MAKE DUBAI AIR SHOW DEBUT
The well-known Swedish fighter jet Gripen arrived in the Middle East for the first time today when it touched down at Airport Expo Dubai in readiness for its regional exhibition debut at Dubai 2005 - the ninth international aerospace show.
The Gripen version that arrived in Dubai will take part in the Dubai 2005 daily flying display. It is the very latest model of this first new-generation fighter to enter service.
During Dubai 2005, Saab display pilot Fredrik Müchler will use a single-seat Gripen C or a dual-seat Gripen D - both of which are fully operational fighter aircraft - to perform his world-renowned air display that has won public acclaim over the past few years at the Farnborough and Paris air shows.
"In previous displays, Fredrik Müchler has used the ‘A' version of Gripen, but now the time has come to show the latest version, currently in service with the Swedish and Czech air forces, said Owe Wagermark, Communications Director, Gripen International.
"This will be our largest ever Dubai air show participation and we will have three aircraft at the show - with up to two single-seaters and a dual seater.
"We will participate in the daily flying display with a single seater, the other will be on the static park with a complement of weapons while the dual seater will be used for special flights, he added.
