Gdynia port in Poland selects Sepura
One of the container terminals in the Harbour of Gdynia in Poland has selected a TETRA communication system from DAMM and Sepura to maximise the efficiency of its cargo handling. This contract was won in conjunction with Icom Poland, Sepura's valued distributor in Poland.
Gdynia is a major container port in the Baltic region. It recently embarked on a series of investment programmes to convert the terminal into a modern container-handling facility. The new communications system, which includes Sepura's hand-held and mobile radios, is an integral part of this modernisation process.
Gdynia, with a capacity of 750,000 TEU (Twenty Feet Equivalent Unit), serves the growing feeder-container market from Poland to major North European ports. Benefiting from its strategic location, Gdynia also acts as a transhipment hub for feeder-container services in the Baltic Sea, from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
Michal Krawiec, Technical Department Manager for Icom Poland commented: "We chose the Sepura SRH3500 hand-held radios because they are lightweight and compact. They are rugged enough to stand up to everyday use around the port; plus the large text and inverted greyscale screen provides greater clarity in challenging light conditions.
Mr Krawiec went on to add "The mobile radios' dual-console option makes them very versatile and can be mounted in a wide variety of locations. Furthermore, with up to 10 watts of power, we can ensure a strong signal for users in every area of the container-terminal facility.
Kenneth Hubner, Regional Sales Director for Sepura commented "Ports worldwide are progressively embracing TETRA communications. We are delighted to have been selected by Gdynia and consider this to be a very significant step towards developing our presence in this market."
