U.S., European, Eurasian officials to discuss terrorism
Decision makers from more than 20 European and Eurasian nations will meet here July 18-21 to come to a greater understanding of opportunities and limitations in countering ideological support for terrorism.
The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies will bring together about 50 participants to examine different aspects of the battle of ideas, including the hearts and minds dimensions of the Cold War and the current war on terrorism, challenges in forging a coalition, undermining legitimacy for violent religious extremism, and engaging Muslim societies in the struggle against violent extremist ideology.
Gen. Panel discussions and working groups focused on the development of cooperative strategies will follow.
Participants will include representatives from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and the United States. The seminar will be conducted in English, German and Russian.
