Smiths Detection wins Aviation Security Award
Smiths Detection has won one of the prestigious British Airport Operators Association (AOA) Awards for 2009. Its success came in the Best Manufacturer category for the aTiX Advanced Cabin Baggage X-Ray and iLane Automated Tray Return systems, deployed at some of the main UK Airports.
The award, received by Smiths Detection President Stephen Phipson at the AOA Annual Conference in London, also recognised the support work done by the recently expanded Service and Operations team.
"I am delighted to accept this on behalf of all the Smiths Detection employees who have performed superbly well to establish the aTiX and ILane systems as world leaders in terms of airport security and throughput." he said.
Ed Anderson, AOA Chairman, said: "The number and quality of entries was unprecedented, reflecting the quality of people and companies working in the airports industry. Deciding on the winners was a difficult process, with so many outstanding entries, but the award winners showed particular excellence and dedication in their field."
The Airport Operators Association is the trade association that represents the interests of British airports and is the principal body with which the UK Government and regulatory authorities consult on airport matters.
