Smiths Detection receives $6million X-ray equipment order for Alger International Airport.

Smiths Detection, the world's leading provider of X-ray and trace detection equipment, today announced the receipt of an order valued at more than US $ 6 million to supply X-ray systems to screen checked and carry-on baggage at Houari Boumediene International Airport located near Algeria's capital Alger. The contract includes conventional machines for hand baggage and the first order for the new HI-SCAN 10080 EDX automatic hold baggage screening system. The installation is scheduled to take place between July and December 2005

To implement the requirement for automatic detection lines, the contract calls for a full integration of multiple Smiths Detection HI-SCAN 10080 EDX (Explosive Detection X-ray) systems for the automated detection of explosives, within Alger's new baggage handling system.

The Alger contract also includes the delivery of 25 conventional Smiths Heimann X-ray inspection systems of the HI-SCAN 6040i, HI-SCAN 100100V and HI-SCAN 145180 types for carry-on baggage, oversized baggage and freight.
